Day 1

The journey of a 1000 miles starts with the first step :-)
Today's breakfast was oatmeal, followed by a small portion of polska kielbaska (less than 2 inches long) and plenty of water. Today's lunch is a 100 calorie sandwich round (whole grain w/flax & fiber), 1 tablespoon of reduced fat peanut butter and a cup of applesauce. My afternoon snack will be raw celery & carrots! Those 8 pounds (plus 4 more!) have a deadline of May 1st to leave town!)

Walk the TALK!

Well, this weekend I finally got on the scale. The first time since one month after my surgery last September. I have gained 8 pounds :-(
Technically I can say I am probably wearing about 1.5 pounds of hair weave and I did have on clothes and shoes as well as this being the PMS week so I have a lot of water weight BUT I shall just claim all of those eight pounds.
The MD released me back to working out at the beginning of the year but with school and work I have not been back in the gym like I should so starting today No More EXCUSES! Going to start tracking my food again and working out accordingly.
Results forthcoming (prayerfully)

Good Deeds, indeed!

I was all ready to post awesome reviews about Good Deeds, until the end (DAMMITMAYNE). The end made it unbelievable to me. In his first male lead, Tyler did well to surround himself with a stellar cast and he was believable in the character. There were a few inconsistencies in the film and a penchant for "over-drama" as in most TP productions but I think that stems from his orgins in live plays wherein the over-acting adds to the production but all in all it was definitely entertaining, if sad in some spots, and worth going to see. The END irked me to no end, however...sorry for the spoiler but what homeless woman and child do you know running around with travel ready passports?!?!?! IJS
Go see it, great film.

The Woman in Black, interesting

Surprisingly enough, The Woman in Black wasn't awful. After looking past Daniel as Harry Potter and tuning out all other distractions, for you have to be attentive to this film to get the full effect of the cinematography and setting to truly get interested in the film, it was actually pretty good. I even got emotionally connected to the film by the end, enough to be mad at the antagonist prior to realizing the true ending. Definitely worth watching, but only at the matinee or the $1 Redbox or on cable! lol

Underworld Awakening - HATED IT!

Le sigh, I hate to see the end of an empire but every vampire must go out in a blaze of flame at some point. The fourth installment of the Underworld series looks cheaply made in some scenes, doesn't go into enough detail in others and overdoes some scenes as if viciousness will make up for poor writing. It was a good story just wasn't told really well and then, due to the length of time between each installment, the impossible happened...a vampire aged :-( Kate Beckinsale while still lovely and awesome in her stunts, looks visibly older in the movie and we know VAMPIRES DON'T AGE!!!
I say there will 1) not be another Underworld movie or 2) it will go straight to DVD and have none of the stars...

Do your own work!!!

Wow, school is very different from my last venture into education. I don't know if it is because the internet provides easier access to your classmates or if the kids today just feel super entitled but this generation of students don't pause 2 seconds in asking to copy homework, notes, test reviews, etc.
What happened to actually coming to class?
What happened to a sense of pride and accomplishment in doing your own work and succeeding?
SMH, I don't want ANY of these kids being doctors or nurses anywhere I get medical treatment!

Lunch Time!

Here is my lunch today. 120 calories of tuna, a 100 calorie whole grain wheat round and 1 boiled egg.
Approximately 300 calories that will fuel me for the day ahead! Let's get it!

Eating as a way to lose weight.

First off, rumor disclaimer: There are no such thing as "negative calorie" foods!
Which is a shame because I was going to fill my house with them!!!
However there are some foods that are low in calories but make you feel full due to high fiber content so you actually don't affect your calorie intake for the day when you eat them.
One such example is celery.
"Celery provides an excellent source of vitamin C and fiber.  It's a very good source of folic acid, potassium, and vitamins B1 and B6.  Celery also offers a good source of vitamin B2 and calcium.  Even though celery contains more sodium than most
other vegetables, the sodium is offset by it's high levels of potassium."

So if we add foods to our diet that can fill us up, while supplying our daily nutritional needs, we can change our "diet" without feeling hungry!

Ughh!!! Losing today!

Okay today I ate a big bag of Doritos and had half a pepsi :-(
I also had oatmeal, raw carrots & celery and plenty of water but nutritionally today is a bust!
Tomorrow is a new day!
Also I will be hitting the gym tonight...HARD!

What's for breakfast/lunch/dinner?

In order to change how we eat, first one must understand what we eat. The first step to planning a diet is seeing what you are currently eating that may be unhealthy. Looking in the mirror, so to speak.
For the first three days, keep a small notebook with you and write down everything you eat and drink. No need to count calories just give estimates in portion amounts so that you have an approximate idea of how much of any given food and/or beverage you ate/drank.

WATER! is a great factor in weight loss/healthy living.
Water flushes toxins out of your system as well as hydrating your tissues.
Replacing sodas & sugary drinks with water is a great way to jump start your weight loss.

Let's Get Healthy!

Several friends and I are working at being more healthy and/or losing weight.
Nothing happens over night, so we shall take steps.

Step 1: Weigh yourself and Measure yourself.

One cannot know what to work on, until you know what you are working with. You can also take a "current" picture. This will give you a visual.

Keeping up the Temple!

Good health is something that I have been focusing on more and more over the past decade, heck I'm 41 time to pay attention to the body beautiful!
Exercise is key to maintaining your health but eating well is too. Diet doesn't mean starve, just means change how and what you eat.
Today's tip is protein. You don't have to eat all meat to get protein. And animal products are the only way that cholesterol is introduced to the body so too much meat leads to CVD (cardiovascular disease). Protein can also be found in dairy products and vegetables.
My protein snack today was a boiled egg and a portion of cheese. Make sure you buy real cheese and not "cheese food". Low fat or fat free products are great!

American's pay attention!

Hello, is it just me? Does no one notice what the GOP is quietly doing behind the scenes while the citizens of the USA watch reality tv and chase red herrings like Gay Marriage and building fences to keep out illegal immigrants? There are actually states that the GOP won in the last interim election that are quietly draft legislation that would outlaw birth control...that would violate a woman's right to control her body.
I can see some (not all) of the arguments for and against abortion. I personally am pro-choice. But birth control? Could it be because these men are not the ones that have to carry the children that it is so easy for them to say "just abstain if you don't want kids". I wonder how many children "on the wrong side of the sheets" some of these law makers would have if their "side chicks" didn't use some form of control. Or how many women they have paid to abort a "love child".
This is disgusting but WE are letting it happen.
America, wake up.

Sports and Women

I think if more ladies gave the NBA & the NFL a chance, they would find the like it. Watching the various teams is just like watching the daytime soap operas. Full of competition, excitement and drama. The fact that the guys are in awesome shape and very easy to look at doesn't hurt either!
I think God made basketball for me because he knew I was going to be single and would need men in my house sweating for the majority of the year! #GoLakers

Is this song about relationships? Or is that just something that I think? #ReflectionsOfMyLife

One Is The Loneliest Number

TEACHERS!!!

Le sigh, I know the purpose of school is to learn but dang-nabbitmayne must you torture me too? Has anyone ever thought they were totally prepared for a test and then got a C??? Then you over-study for the next test, walk in confident and leave out in a daze?
My Nutrition teacher is obviously trying to make me have high blood pressure >:(

Goodbye to a singing Legend

God Bless Whitney Houston. That being said she was pretty much out of my life years ago, a statement that I am sure will get me stabbed by a few friends but honestly once she stopped making music, since I didn't know her personally, she stopped being relevant to me.
Every life has a purpose however and her time on this earth seemed short. I pray for her family left behind, most especially her daughter and her ex-husband, Bobby Brown. As the media drags him through the mud and Whitney's family treats him like a stranger I wonder if anyone remembers that he too is an ex-addict and that he has lost both his parents (Mom a year ago and his Father 12/2011) in the past year and now Whitney, the woman he spent over a third of his life loving.
I wasn't inside of the Houston/Brown household but Whitney made no secret of her love for Bobby & I think she would be deeply saddened by the treatment of him as he grieves over her death.
Something In Common - Whitney & Bobby

Maybe I should have learned how to work the blog design prior to going online (lol) well this will definitely be a work in progress. Ya'll gon' learn today! Or hopefully I will :-)

Hello World!

Friends have been encouraging me for years to start a blog so I am finally going to do so. I don't find myself that entertaining but hey, if I give you a smile or a giggle I'm glad to be of service.
Oh, I am starting this to get over my FB addiction, lol.
Future Blessings!
